Haley Johnson

Haley Johnson (b. 2001, Massachusetts) is a recent graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, exploring themes of ecology and environmentalism in her artwork. She uses the photographs she takes while birding or hiking as inspirations for her oil paintings in which she tells the story of her passion and curiosity for nature. Haley loves to share her unique encounters in the natural world as a way to connect with her viewers and encourage them to get curious about wildlife and the great outdoors.

Haley’s work was featured ‘Wish List’ on view December 9-22, 2023.

“Lately I have been painting from photographs taken while bird banding, a scientific process in which wild birds are equipped with metal bands in an effort to keep track of their movements and learn more about them. Zoomed in paintings of these close encounters offer a unique glance into an intimate moment between the birds and those who study them.”
