Andrew Freshour

Andrew Freshour (b. 1990) is a Manchester, New Hampshire based illustrator. He received his BFA in illustration from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2013, and is a member of the New Hampshire Artist Association in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Andrew enjoys working with watercolor, as well as pen and ink. He loves to depict religious figures, frogs, spell casters, regal ladies, and scenes of unapologetic homoeroticism. Through art he likes to explore the fantastical and everyday situations all with a touch of humor. Andrew is a passionate high church Episcopalian who in his free time enjoys winsome strolls, church hopping, sipping cosmos, and getting lost in movies.

Andrew’s work was featured in â€˜Tales of Fancy,’ on view March 9-30, 2024.

“I’m generally an individual whose head is always in the clouds. My mind loves to wander through opulent fantasy and the realm of dreams, where I encounter all sorts of vivid characters. In this way, for my portion of the show, I’ve chosen to do a series of fantasy-forward watercolor portraits. All the souls depicted therein are born of my imagination. Each figure has a story of their own their own to tell, though through closed lips. It is my intention that when these pieces are encountered by the viewer, they’ll conjure narratives of their own about each figure’s identity and background. I set the stage with each portrait’s palette and varied line work, but I leave the rest to each viewer. Dwelling mentally in the realm of the fantastical can be such a treat, and I hope my show inspires, even briefly, an internalized glimpse at that world.”

Andrew’s work was featured in ‘All Together Now,’ on view February 11-26, 2023.

“Inspired by the aesthetics of Oscar Wilde and dream-like fantasy, I fashioned a mythical male figure who dare speak love’s name.”
