Jakob Fioole

Jakob Fioole (b. 1978, The Netherlands) is a painter, currently living and working in Greater Boston. He grew up in a suburb of Breda, The Netherlands. In 1997, after high school and spending a year at a technical engineering college in The Hague, Fioole attended art school in Breda. The first years were mainly occupied by drawing, often challenging himself to find new ground by using various kinds of (physical) restraints to help explore the depth of the medium. After switching art schools in 1999 he started using paint in his drawings and soon he became fascinated by the resistance found in the complexity of oil paint.

Moving to the U.S. in later life, the country’s cultural make-up and urban environments became influential to his work.

Jakob’s work was featured in ‘Presently‘ on view December 14-22, 2024.

“These two works are part of a series of small paintings, in which I focus on single characters, often inspired by figures in my larger works.”

Jakob’s work was featured in ‘All Together Now,’ on view February 11-26, 2023.
