Jackie Hanson

Jackie Hanson (b. 1999, Belmont, NH) spent her childhood in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, raised in a family where art and creativity were always encouraged. While growing up, she became familiar with the beauty of the outdoors in New England: lakes, mountains, small farms, and plenty of day trips to the ocean.

Her New England upbringing is a major influence on her subject matter. Using a variety of media, she explores themes of nature as a force at play with humanity, both opposed and aligned with one another.

Jackie graduated from New England College’s Institute of Art and Design in 2022 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and is continuing her practice as a career.

Jackie’s work was featured in ‘Presently‘ on view December 14-22, 2024.

For ‘Yeehaw:’ “Inspired by the current cultural trends of unapologetic femininity, a girly-Western aesthetic and, of course, Chappell Roan and Barbie, I wanted to make a chicken version of these ideas (since chickens are my thing.)”

For Cawblo Peckasso: “The story I like to tell people when they see this painting is this: I’ve painted so many chickens, I decided it was their turn to paint me.”

For Shadowplay: “This painting came from a fixation on the colors of shadows (cool toned in warm light, or vice versa) and the interplay of positive and negative space.”

Jackie’s work was featured in ‘Critical Mass,’ on view August 12-27, 2023.

“Using variegated houseplants as subjects, I’m experimenting with simplified shapes and exaggerated colors.”

Jackie’s work was featured in ‘Glad You Asked,’ on view March 11-26, 2023.

“A beached rowboat at Fort Foster, Maine one March day made for delicious textures in layers of mixed media.”
