Jacob Humphrey (b. 2000) is a New Hampshire based artist who has been developing her skills as a mixed media artist for many years. Intersecting textiles and oil painting in primarily figure based abstract pieces while giving an inside look into what it means to be a queer individual without making it blatant. Her paintings are ambiguous, abstracted, with a dark appeal to them. Using queer staples such as fishnet fabrics and focusing primarily on the male figure, she gives you insight to the normalcy of queer lives while also portraying the hardships that come with them. Much of her art reflects her own internal struggles being a queer individual, many of which are shared by the majority of queer youth. Her art is made in a way that leaves it to be interpreted differently by everyone, creating an internal thought process on how it relates to oneself rather than the collective.
Jacob’s work was featured in ‘All Together Now,’ on view February 11-26, 2023.
