Jimmy Viera

Jimmy Viera (b. 1992, Dartmouth, MA) is a painter who lives in South Portland, ME and works in Portland, ME. Jimmy makes acrylic paintings on panels based on memory, gesture, and observations from the natural world. Through the use of masking, Jimmy adds shapes to the piece in much the same way a printmaker would add plates to their etching, layer by layer. The same painting may feature both the treeline of a forest and two centimeter section of fungus. Jimmy is interested in exploring the ways in which different natural systems connect and diverge.

Jimmy’s work was featured in â€˜Another Dimension,’ on view July 8-30, 2023.

“With these works I am trying to capture small moments that happen in between the bigger themes of the day. Some of these small moments can be just as impactful as the talking points of the day. One such moment is the flowers that I walk by at the same time everyday on my way out of my studio. The timing is just right so that the setting sun comes through the petals in rays that shimmer and dance against the bricks of the building. This has become a nice moment to look forward to at the end of my day.”
