Matt Serven

Matt Serven (b. 1977, Rochester, NH) is a stained glass artist creating in Portsmouth, NH. Matt is attracted to the bright and bold, deceptively simple designs, like neon signs and well crafted 80’s pop songs. As a stained glass artist, the balance between the art and the craft of the medium, and its changing identities throughout the course of its history, floor him. Exploring texture, pattern, composition, color, repetition, and variations on a theme, either in reaction to or admiration for what came before drives him forward. Underground music, tattoo, skateboard culture, Esoterica and Pop Art inform/influence his untraditional take on the craft and how he communicates the stories residing in.

Matt’s work was featured in ‘Omen,’ on view October 12-27, 2024.

“Symbolically, lighthouses represent “a beacon of hope”. I’ve chosen their strength as an inspiration to process a time of significant betrayal in my life. These shifting, yet imperfect perspectives provide to me a safe haven to weather the storm.”
