Taylor Bielecki

Taylor Bielecki (b. 1994) is a newcomer to New York City. One who is both fascinated and fearful of New York. In her paintings, drawings, and prints, she gravitates toward nocturnal urban landscapes. She take inspiration from cinema, specifically scenes of suspense often shot in alleyways and deserted highways from a voyeuristic viewpoint, from her walks in the city. Like a director editing the establishing shot, she chooses each composition that places the viewer in a position of vulnerability. She uses photography and film to influence how she can turn shots she often stumbles upon spontaneously into distorted scenes of reality, leaving someone to ask, how did I get here and what is next?

Taylor is currently the studio and gallery manager at Pratt Institute, where she earned her MFA, and she earned her BFA at Penn State. She lives and works in Brooklyn NY.

Taylor’s work was featured in ‘Glad You Asked,’ on view March 11-26, 2023.

“Wandering into an empty town, admits a terrible rain storm, finding solace through the water and music.”
