My Greatest Fear

Carol is the woman behind the “Ask Carol” column in her local newspaper. She is excited because she just saved enough trading stamps from her local department store to acquire an electric typewriter with a correction key (she previously had to use White Out with her manual typewriter, which she disliked). The questions she typically receives from women tend to be relative to proper place setting at the dinner table, proper etiquette during the holidays, and the best ways to please their men in bed. Right now, however, she is attempting to answer a letter received from a woman named Carrie who has severe claustrophobia any time of the day, because she was once kidnapped by a family member, placed in the trunk of his car, and physically and sexually abused. She has never told anyone because she doesn’t think anyone would believe her.
