Nancy is in an unhappy marriage with Phillip. Every morning for the past 10 years she has looked at herself in the mirror wondering “what have I done?” Phillip showed “red flags” that caused her distress before they married, but she excused them and believed he would change, and things would improve when they married. Until now, however, she has feared the backlash of family, friends, and the community of Pleasantville if she files for divorce. She was always taught marriage was “until death do us part” as no one gets divorced. But this morning she has decided she cannot live the rest of her life with Phillip. She has decided to leave and live her life relieved of men distress.
